Preserving our Architectural Treasures

Support the Cathedral of Learning Preservation Project

Make History at Pitt

In 1925, Chancellor John Bowman initiated the “Buy A Brick” fundraising program to increase support for the building of the Cathedral of Learning. This landmark campaign attracted more than 20,000 men and women who provided the financial support to aid the construction of the Cathedral. The fundraising program also encouraged Pittsburgh school children to donate dimes to the construction and become members of the Fellowship of Builders of the Cathedral of Learning. More than 97,000 children made donations and helped make Chancellor Bowman’s dream of developing the Cathedral of Learning a reality.

The Cathedral of Learning serves as an inspirational icon for people who love the University of Pittsburgh. You can carve out your place in the history of the Cathedral and Pitt, by making a donation to support the Cathedral of Learning preservation project.
